Project "We Can"
PROJECT “WE CAN” is a project of our Parish Youth Group which seeks to raise awareness and ask for everyone's help to reduce hunger in our area.
Please consider these disturbing facts. In Watauga County, 25% of our population lives in poverty. At least 6% of us are listed as "food insecure", meaning some of us are likely hungry and have no idea where our next meal will come from. Of our children enrolled in public schools, more than 36% qualify for free breakfasts or other food assistance because they might not otherwise get anything to eat during the day. We have a higher poverty rate than 97% of our state's counties. Our county is one of the three poorest counties in the State of North Carolina.
In their effort to do something about this sad state of affairs, our Youth are asking for every family that can afford to do so to consider bringing a donation of non-perishable foods each and every Sunday of the month of October. A large “WE CAN” receptacle has been placed at the front doors for your convenience. If you can't afford to give every Sunday, please do what you can. Please consider helping our Youth as they try to make a difference for those who hunger in our county. This is a very real need and
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Diapers (And More) Drive
App State Students for Life, a group organized and sponsored by members of our Catholic Campus Ministry group is hosting a Diaper Drive to benefit Hope Pregnancy Resource Center on campus and in our Parish. In addition to diapers, you can contribute many of the necessities that a new baby can require. Check the list and consider giving what you can.
Hope Pregnancy Center continues to support new mothers who are in difficult pregnancy situations after their babies are born as part of their effort to encourage those mothers to keep their babies and protect life. By contributing to this drive, you can help our students in their effort to help Hope Pregnancy Center help new mothers keep and take care of their babies.
There is a drop-off box in the gathering space where you can leave any of the listed items. It will be there to accept donations throughout the month of October. Thank you for your support!
